Watch: Phoebe Bridgers shares video for new track ‘Kyoto,’ announces sophomore album ‘Punisher’

'Punisher' is set for release on June 19

Phoebe Bridgers has announced that her second solo album Punisher is set for release on June 19th via Dead Oceans. As part of the announcement, Bridgers has shared a video for her new track “Kyoto.”

“This song is about impostor syndrome,” Bridgers explains in a statement. “About being in Japan for the first time, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and playing my music to people who want to hear it, feeling like I’m living someone else’s life. I dissociate when bad things happen to me, but also when good things happen. It can feel like I’m performing what I think I’m supposed to be like. I wrote this one as a ballad first, but at that point I was so sick of recording slow songs, it turned into this.”

The green screen video was shot in Los Angeles after initial plans to film in Japan were scrapped due to the spread of COVID-19. The forthcoming album is also set to include Bridgers’ recent single “Garden Song.”
