Watch: Rostam (Collective Arts Black Box Sessions)

Rostam performs intimate acoustic versions of "Bike Dream" and "Half-Light" from his 2017 album, Half-Light.

Rostam Batmangli recently released his first solo album since parting from beloved indie pop band Vampire Weekend, but he is certainly no stranger to producing music outside of the group that earned him his songwriting acclaim. I Had a Dream That You Were Mine , his 2016 collaboration with former Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser, garnered universal praise from music critics and found its way onto many best-of lists. He has also collaborated with Kid Cudi, Best Coast, Diplo, and Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, while producing songs with Charli XCX, Ra Ra Riot, HAIM, and Carly Rae Jepsen, and wrote original music for a Broadway play by Kenneth Lonergan that starred Kieran Culkin and Michael Cera.

Half-Light, Rostam’s first proper debut under just his own name, showcases why all these great artists are lining up to work with him. He’s an incredibly gifted and unique songwriter, and he showed off some of that talent in this Collective Arts Black Box Session. Watch Rostam perform “Half-Light” and “Bike Dream”, from his debut solo album Half-Light.
