While readying her new album, Planet (i), which is set for release on June 25th via Polyvinyl, Squirrel Flower has shared a video for her new track “Flames and Flat Tires.”
The relatable tune, on the surface level, sees Squirrel Flower singing of driving too fast in a run-down car that’s ready to give, but when you delve deeper, she looks at the cycle of self-destruction. The accompanying video sees Squirrel Flower singing along to the tune with cinematic shots of her inside a car, interspersed with shots of a junkyard.
“I wrote ‘Flames & Flat Tires’ on my second day of quarantine in Bristol, England ahead of recording,” Squirrel Flower explains. “It was late August, hot, I was staying in a place that opened onto a party street, and every night I stayed up listening to the sounds of the revelers and the birds squawking and screaming until 6am, then all day watched people hanging laundry in their backyards through my kitchen window. This was one of those tunes that just falls out.”
