Watch: Squirrel Flower shares eerie lyric video for new track ‘I’ll Go Running’

She's set to perform at the Phoenix with Soccer Mommy on September 26

Iowa singer-songwriter Squirrel Flower is gearing up to release her forthcoming album, Planet (i) on June 25th, and today she’s previewed the collection with a lyric video for her new single, “I’ll Go Running.”

The gothic new track comes packed with rich imagery, as Squirrel Flower croons atop a driven drum beat and captivating, droning guitar lines. The accompanying lyric video is full of clips of Squirrel Flower in the dark, with shots that feel like a nod to camcorder-style horror flicks.

“‘I’ll Go Running’ is about the darker side of being an artist – the pressure to make things brand new, shocking, to give everything away and open yourself completely without always getting intentional listening and consumption in return,” Squirrel Flower explains. “To be vulnerable to a knife. To be fresh, new, to give it all away. But it’s powerful to offer yourself and your art without fear, which is what I try to do with this album. That’s why this is the opening track.”
