Saturday would have marked David Berman’s 53rd birthday, and Pavement members Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastonovich paid tribute to the late Silver Jews and Purple Mountains songwriter with a few covers.
The concert, which took place at Portland’s Bunk Bar, also featured performances from the Spinanes’ Rebecca Gates, William Tyler, Frank Bruno, Clay Cole, Red Ronne, A Certain Smile, and more. Malkmus and Nastonovich’s performance was a stand out, as they covered “Random Rules” from American Water and “Trains Across the Sea” from Starlite Walker.
