Watch: Sufjan Stevens shares video for new track ‘Video Game’ starring ‘Renegade’ dance creator

'The Ascension' is set for release on September 25

Sufjan Stevens is set to make his return on September 25th with his new record, The Ascension. Today, he’s shared a music video for his new track “Video Game.”

“Video Game” comes packed with a (fitting) video game-style synth line, as Stevens’ silky vocals deliver lines like, “I don’t wanna be a puppet in a theater/ I don’t wanna play your video game.” The accompanying clip stars “Renegade” dance creator Jalaiah Harmon, who dances in a futuristic room as graphics flash across the screen.

“The main takeaway of ‘Video Game’ for me is: your worth (invaluable) should never be based on other people’s approval (ephemeral),” Stevens explains. “Just be yourself. Keep it real. Keep it moving. Do all things with absolute purity, love and joy. And always do your best.”
