Watch: The 1975 perform ‘Sincerity Is Scary’ at The Brit Awards, address misogyny in acceptance speech

They also won Best British Album and Best British Band

The 1975 won some big titles at the 2019 Brit Awards after taking home the prizes for Best British Album and Best British Band, where they used one of their acceptance speeches to call out misogyny in the music industry. During the ceremony, the group also took to the stage to perform “Sincerity Is Scary” live.

The performance stays true to the track’s accompanying music video, as frontman Matty Healy performed with his characteristic rabbit hat as he danced on a travelator. As the ceremony continued, Healy said that the band was “humbled” for winning Best British Band and he went on to address misogyny in the music industry in the wake of the Ryan Adams sexual misconduct allegations. “Male misogynist acts are examined for nuance and defended as traits of difficult artists,” Healy explained in his speech.
