Tony Hawk helped launch skateboarding into popular culture in the 1980s, but the sport’s popularity dried up in the early 1990s. Hawk would once again vault skateboarding back into the public consciousness at the end of the decade when he worked with video game publisher Activision to release Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
The forthcoming feature-length documentary Pretending I’m a Superman looks at the video game’s influence on the sport. Check out the first trailer below.
Earlier this year, Activision announced that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 are being remastered for a September 4th release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The games will feature most of the original soundtrack, which includes artists such as Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Goldfinger, Primus, and Rage Against The Machine.
Pretending I’m a Superman arrives on digital platforms on Aug. 18.
