Wavves release first album in four years ‘Hideaway’

Wavves have returned with their first new album in four years, Hideaway.

Serving as the follow-up to 2017’s You’re Welcome, the new album marks their seventh overall. The surf-punk collection sees Nathan Williams and co. joined by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. The 9-track album boasts previously released singles “Help Is on the Way,” “Sinking Feeling,” “Caviar,” and its title track.

This new album sees Wavves moving from their surf-rock sound toward more of a pop-punk energy. They really strike a delicate balance between the two sounds, with fun-loving instrumentals and blistering riffs.

“It’s real peaks and valleys with me,” Williams explains of the album in a statement. “I can be super optimistic and I can feel really good, and then I can hit a skit and it’s like an earthquake hits my life, and everything just falls apart. Some of it is my own doing, of course.”

You can pre-order a physical version of Hideaway here, including a baby blue vinyl pressing.

Earlier this week, Wavves previewed the album with its final single, “Caviar.” The new tune calls on Wavves’ early lo-fi indie-punk sounds with a bit of a twist. This track almost channels a twisted country sound, with big dazy melodies.

“‘Caviar’ is about two selfish people in a shitty relationship unwilling to change,” frontman Nathan Williams explains. “A bad situation that continues to get worse but you stay anyways. You’ll see this theme of ‘change and ‘comfort’ throughout the whole record.”
