Weaves and Tanya Tagaq Share Vivid New Video for ‘Scream’

New music video follows Polaris performance

Last night (September 18) Tanya Tagaq and Weaves teamed up to perform “Scream” at the Polaris Music Prize gala in Toronto. The song is a collaborative effort between the Canadian artists and stems from Weaves’ upcoming album Wide Open.

Today, the music video for the new song has been released. The video was directed and edited by Weaves and stars Jasmyn Burke and Tanya Tagaq.

In a Facebook post shared by Weaves, the band refers to Tagaq as a “force,” a “friend,” and a “mentor.”

We don’t want to say featuring Tanya Tagaq because she is a force! A friend! And a mentor! This song was written out of necessity in a way. Feeling lost in the world and just releasing negative energy and Tanya just made the experience of creating Scream so special. She is such a beautiful, raw artist. So happy to have collaborated with her on this one.
We hope you stand up and Scream your name — don’t let anyone try and tell you that you’re lesser or can’t achieve your goals. Walk with pride and have confidence — love you all

“Scream” delivers a powerful take on societal expectations, culture, and a global state of vexation. Its power lies in Tagaq’s throaty cries that feel like a call to action, whatever that may be.
