Where to get Free Stuff on Your Birthday in Toronto

Cashing in on another spin around the sun

Experience enough birthdays, and the memories you made celebrating them all start to blend together. Photos include selfies with cakes, meals with friends, a bit of dancing, and possibly the (last) round of shots that you would rather forget. This year, it’s time for something different. Instead of planning a birthday of epic proportions, prepare a birthday that’s centered on how much free stuff you can collect from local establishments that are happy to honour your day. After all, you’re not getting any younger, and it’s never too early to save for retirement.

Note: Some freebies require you to sign up for birthday rewards in advance. These deals change as much as the lines in your face, so check in advance to confirm they’re still a thing at the time of your birthday.

Start The Day Right

Begin at Denny’s with a free Grand Slam. Jet Fuel Coffee will fill your aging body full of caffeine with a free cup o’Joe on your special day. Starbucks will too, if you register online in advance. Booster Juice offers a free drink, if you’d prefer fruity goodness over coffee. If tea is your thing, head to David’s Tea for a free drink, instead. Or hit them all up – hey, it’s your birthday. Need something to soak up all that liquid? What a Bagel offers six free bagels if you buy six bagels and Panera Bread will give you a pastry.

The iconic #GrandSlam. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Free on your Birthday!

Pamper Yourself

Drop your clothes off at Parker’s Dry Cleaners, where you can register in advance for a $10 off coupon, and a $10 off birthday coupon. You can stretch out your worries with a free class at Kula Yoga (call in advance), and get a free blowout from a junior hair stylist at Prive Hair Gallery. Archery Circuit offers a free game during your birthday week. Sephora will give you a choice between two gifts and if you’re a member of The Body Shop, you’ll get a free gift there, too. Hooters will give you a shirt. You can rest your weary feet while watching a free movie at Rainbow Cinemas. Tired of carrying all your loot around? Aveda offers a few minutes of a back and shoulder massage or hand massage, plus a treat to add to your birthday bag.

Fill Your Birthday Belly

Some restaurants offer appetizers, and some offer free meals if you bring a friend or even if you’re opting to dine alone. Try appetizers and meals at Wish, Boston Pizza, The Harbord Room, the Old Spaghetti Factory, Casey’s, Taco Bell, The Works Gourmet Burger and W Burger Bar, Benihana, and Tucker’s Marketplace. For a feast with a battle, register at Medieval Times a week in advance.

A free shot at Insomnia or Prohibition Gastropub, and special drinks at Momofuku Daisho and BarChef could start – or finish – a birthday night of freebies.

Always Room For Desert

Try some of these places for dessert – cake at The Keg, a white chocolate brownie at Moxie’s or free dessert at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (with advance reservation), The Cheesecake Factory, JaBistro (dessert or champagne), Cracker Barrel, Milestones, Queen Mother Café, Enoteca Sociale and Hard Rock Café. Local Public Eatery offers churros, and Nota Bene provides dark chocolate.

And absolutely, Ice Cream

Choose one, or choose them all – a bellyache isn’t so bad when it’s earned because of an ice cream binge. Dairy Queen offers a buy one, get one deal if you join their Blizzard Club in advance. You can also fill your ice cream need(s) at: Marble Slab Creamery, Menchie’s, Baskin Robbins, Hotel Gelato and Cold Stone Creamery.

Happy birthday to you!
