Wilco cover The Beatles’ ‘Dig A Pony,’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down’

Wilco have shared a pair of The Beatles covers for Amazon Music, “Dig a Pony” and “Don’t Let Me Down.”

The new Amazon Original covers come as a part of Amazon Music’s month-long [RE]DISCOVER campaign for The Beatles. This program comes in celebration of the Let It Be Special Edition, which came out on October 15th. Wilco have truly added their own twist to the classic tunes. Of the covers, Wilco lead guitarist Nels Cline explains:

“What a delight to convene in The Loft and assay two songs by that cool underground band The Beatles! I envy us!”

Listen to Wilco’s covers of The Beatles’ “Dig A Pony” and “Don’t Let Me Down” below.

On “Don’t Let Me Down,” Wilco add a country twist. They slow the tempo down ever so slightly to truly ruminate, delivering the line, “Don’t Let Me Down,” over and over. On “Dig a Pony,” on the other hand, Wilco stay true to the original. Frontman Jeff Tweedy even channels the raspy sounds of John Lennon.

Wilco’s covers of “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Dig A Pony” are set to appear on Amazon Music’s playlist series, [RE]DUX 057: The Beatles. This playlist celebrates the band’s best works and also artists that they inspired and influenced.

Tweedy has been no stranger to covers lately. In fact, earlier this month he shared a cover of Neil Young’s “The Old Country Waltz.” That cover comes from the deluxe edition of Love Is the King. He also recently covered the Ted Lasso theme song.
