Bahamas – “Way With Words”
Great local act Bahamas has a knack for being effortlessly cool in his tracks and live performances. I’d also argue he knows the value of an excellent backing vocal in life (re-listen to the magical humming in “Lost in the Light” for reference if you fancy.) He’s back with a new record, Earthtones, out January 19th with a sold out album release party at Massey Hall on the 18th. One of his favourite album’s of the last few years, D’Angelo’s Black Messiah, lead him to working members of D’Angelo’s backing band on this record. Here’s his latest, “Way With Words.”
Empire of the Sun – “On Our Way Home”
Aussie indie-electro-pop group Empire of the Sun dropped a surprise 5 track EP last month, releasing two new tracks and 3 remixes. Here’s one of the new ones for ya “On Our Way Home.“
Banners – “Empire is on Fire”
Known widely as a Brit, after living in Toronto for a few years can we now we can claim him as a local? Banners is back with his second EP, Empires on Fire, which features his hauntingly beautiful vocals with both political and personal lyrcis.
Imagine Dragons – “Whatever It Takes”
2017 was a huge year for Imagine Dragons, with a new album, chart topping hits and a Wayhome headlining spot. Here’s another one off the album Evolve (that was also the official anthem of WWE’s Battleground, btw.)
Logic & Rag N Bone Man – “Broken People”
Well, this is a cool collaboration: American rapper/ producer Logic and bluesy Brit Rag ‘n’ Bone Man. They tackle society’s issues and responses in “Broken People,” with stomp along, clap along beat and what a hook from RNBM! This one is also is on the soundtrack for an upcoming Netflix movie Bright.
