Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here.
The National – “The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness”
The National will be back in Toronto December 9th at the Sony Centre! They’ve finally confirmed their seventh album, Sleep Well Beast, will be out September 8. Last year they hinted that the record contains a “very dark” sound that may surprise fans, let’s see if this one surprises you.
Matt Mays – “Faint of Heart”
It’s been five years already since Matt Mays released his great album, Coyote, and though he’s planning on releasing a full new record this fall, he’s teasing it with the EP Once Upon A Hell of Time. It’s a rock ‘n’ roll party for the heartbroken, and here’s a taste.
LCD Soundsystem – “Call The Police”
Lucky you, LCD Soundsystem will be releasing their first new album in 7 years…soon. A release date isn’t confirmed because apparently James Murphy insists on having vinyl pressed ahead of time (and high fives for that, really.) They previewed this new one on SNL, but now you get the recorded version!
Mother Mother – “Love Stuck”
Mother Mother are great with harmonies and hooks, and sometimes though their lyrics are a little hard to follow – you’ll catch yourself singing them all day. Case in point, “Love Stuck”. This track was the result of pushing through a hard time and trusting that the universe has your back.
Milky Chance – “Blossom”
It’s interesting to see where German electro-folk duo Milky Chance is charting worldwide. Outside their native Germany they’ve made it into the top ten here in Canada, in Switzerland and Australia. It’s clear we’ve loved them since hearing “Cocoon”, but its time to check out the title track off their latest release “Blossom”.
