Your First Listen (Week of Nov. 17)

5 remarkable tracks you need to hear

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Chvrches – Dead Air

A while back a video was going around with Scottish band Chvrches playing a new song live… but no one knew what it was called. It had a bunch of working titles like “Richard Pryor”, “Gene Wilder”, and “Eddie Murphy”…which is kind of weird because it’s on the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 and it’s not called ANY of those things.

Arkells – Leather Jacket

This one’s off Arkells’ most recent album High Noon. You can see Hamilton’s indie darlings here at the Danforth Music Hall from the 27th to the 29th. Just in time for the cold weather, Arkells are pulling out the “Leather Jacket” for you.

Paolo Nutini – Let Me Down Easy

This Scottish artist was in Toronto back in December and his third album Caustic Love debuted at #1 on the UK charts. Check out what all the hype is about right here.

Alvvays – Next Of Kin

One of the most exciting new Toronto bands released their self-titled debut album back in the summer and you can see them at The Opera House December 20th. You know those songs that get stuck in your head forever? That’s pretty much ALL they write. Here’s another earworm from Alvvays – it’s called “Next Of Kin”.

Hozier – Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene

Ireland’s Hozier just played a huge sold out show at The Phoenix. He’s a rising star and all around lovely human being. His debut self-titled album is out, taking over the world. You already know “Take Me To Church” and now I’m giving you another religion-tinged one – “Angel of Small Death & The Codeine Scene”.
