Your First Listen (Week of Nov. 24)

5 remarkable tracks you need to hear

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Coldplay – Ink

Here’s another single off Coldplay’s most recent album Ghost Stories. A slow burner – the kind of song that might put you in mind of a clear nighttime drive.

Whitehorse – Downtown

Whitehorse are the polaris shortlisted, husband and wife singer-songwriter duo, from right here in Toronto. This one from their album, Leave No Bridge Unburned, is about this city, specifically that whole thing with our mayor, and how it turned into a media circus and international embarrassment. But, it also deals with the city’s partisan politics and the sometimes loneliness you might feel, even though you live in such a busy place. Not online yet, but check out “Sweet Disaster” off their new album.

Big Data – The Business Of Emotion

Big Data had a huge hit with their track “Dangerous”… You’ve heard it here on Indie88. Now he’s back with another guest artist, White Sea, who’s originally from the band M83. But, it still has Big Data’s signature big beats and electronic flair.

Sloan – You’ve Got A Lot on Your Mind

Sloan, the legendary Canadian band, plays this Saturday at the Phoenix. You’re gonna hear the classics, but you’ll also hear some tracks off their new album. It’s their eleventh studio album, Commonwealth. Check this out so you’re ready to sing along.

Weezer – Da Vinci

Weezer is back – and they want you to know Everything Will Be Alright in the End. That’s the name of their most recent album. They made it with the same producer who did their debut – The Blue Album, back in the 90s. What do you think – does it remind you of vintage Weezer?
