Your First Listen: Week of November 12th

Five Remarkable Tracks You Need To Hear

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here.

Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 8:45 p.m.

Vance Joy – “Like Gold”

Vance Joy’s second album Nation of Two is almost done and you have to wait until February 2018 until it’s in your hands. Good news, the Melbourne singer songwriter is giving you this one to tide you over.

Mansionair – “Astronaut (Something About Your Love)”

Aussie trio Mansionair got really motivated to try and figure out how space would sound while recording this new one called “Astronaut”. Listen close and you’ll hear atmospheric sounds the band got by shoving a mic into the belly of a piano, hoping it sounded like the feeling an astronaut gets while looking at earth from space.

Hey Ocean! – “Sleepwalker”

After a three year break, Vancouver indie darlings Hey Ocean! are back! You’ll have to wait until 2018 for their new album The Hurt of Happiness (unless you luckily picked up a copy at their gig at the Drake this week!). If you missed their show filled with sweet singalongs, hopefully this can tide you over until they’re back in 2018. Here’s their latest “Sleepwalker.”

Bleachers – “I Miss Those Days”

Jack Antonoff is clearly a multitasker, somehow managing to record and release his own solo album while co-producing Lorde’s Melodrama and working on tracks with everyone from Taylor Swift to Banks. Hopefully you were lucky enough to get into his sold-out show November 14th at the Phoenix!

Fast Romantics – “Get Loved”

Awesome locals Fast Romantics have hit the road with the Elwins, which will make for an excellent hometown show December 3rd at the Mod Club, and just before leaving they launched GetLoved.org, what they’re calling an experimental project to spread good vibes to the internet and beyond! Here’s the soundtrack to it!
