YouTube is launching a paid subscription service — but only in the US

After months of buzz about a paid subscription service, YouTube is finally making good on the rumours. The video site has announced that YouTube Red will be launching next week, but will only be available to YouTube subscribers in the U.S. for now.

YouTube Red will be packaged together with Google Play Music, reports Exclaim, and will cost users $9.99 a month after a one-month free trial. Users can expect ad-free watching, offline viewing and background play, in addition to an exclusive look at series from established YouTube channels. College Humour, PewDiePie and MatPat will all have content available only to Red subscribers — you can see the full list of series to expect on the YouTube blog.
