In 2012 British Columbia natives Yukon Blonde showed us just how good the 70s could sound with the use of fuzzy guitars and catchy pop melodies with their debut Tiger Talk. This year, they matured their sound on their latest LP On Blonde, by bringing the best of the 80s.
Adding power synth melodies into the mix, the band showcases their poppy-er elements. The track “Saturday Night”, shows off punchy bass lines and vocal melodies that would make you think you’re still driving a 1989 Plymouth Speedster. Aside from On Blonde’s 80s inspiration, the album still maintains the bands low-fi roots like “Hannah”, or their blues-ier influences evident on “I Wanna Be Your Man”.
You can pick up On Blonde via Dine Alone Records June 16th. Take a listen to the entire album which is available to stream below.
