Restauranteur Jen Agg has owned and operated Dundas Street West charcuterie haunt The Black Hoof for 10 years. On Thursday, Agg took to Instagram to announced that the popular eatery is set to close in August.
“I’m so proud of what this place was and what it has become,” Agg said via Instagram. “Totally without hubris, it was a turning point for the restaurant scene in our town and has seen so many people come and go, but uncharacteristically, as so often with restaurants, it has seen many people stay, and they’ve become the heartbeat of my company—I love you all dearly you know who you are.”

The Black Hoof, which opened in 2008, played a vital role in changing dining attitudes in Toronto. Agg and then chef Grant Van Gameren focused on game meats and offered modern delicacies like bone marrow.
Agg will continue to operate her two other Dundas West spots, Rhum Corner and Cocktail Bar. So mark August 20 on your calendar as your absolute last chance to chow down at The Black Hoof.
