Eddie Vedder covers Prince, R.E.M., Kings Of Leon, more at Ohana Festival

Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival took place in Dana Point, California over the weekend.

He headlines Ohana Festival every year, and this year he performed a headlining solo set and one with the rest of Pearl Jam. Headliners Kings Of Leon had to cancel at the last minute after their mother’s death, so Vedder ended up playing a third headlining set. During the performance, Vedder was backed by Andrew Watt, bassist Pino Palladino, Glen Hansard, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, and former Red Hot Chili Peppers member Josh Klinghoffer.

As a tribute to Kings of Leon, he performed their track, “Molly’s Chambers.” Vedder and co. also cycled through covers of R.E.M.’s “Drive,” Prince’s “Purple Rain,” Pretenders’ “Previous,” and the Who’s “I’m One.” Eddie Vedder even performed a track with his 17-year-old daughter Olivia during the Ohana Festival set.

This year marked the fifth annual Ohana festival. The event was scheduled for September 24th to 26th, but Vedder also added a second weekend called Ohana Encore. The bonus festival returned to Dana Point, California’s Doheny State Beach from October 1st to 2nd. Vedder’s Encore event will feature Pearl Jam as headliners on both nights.

The stacked lineup sees Beck, Lord Huron, White Reaper, Pluralone, and more playing on Friday, October 1st. Meanwhile, Brandi Carlile, Sleater-Kinney, Margo Price, and more hit the stage on the 2nd.

Eddie Vedder has been quite busy. He recently announced his forthcoming solo album, Earthling. As part of the announcement, he shared “Long Way” via Seattle Surf/Republic Records.

Eddie Vedder created the song with producer Andrew Watt. With shining vocals and emotive instrumentals, “Long Way” is sure to move you.
